Santanyi

Santanyí, located on the southeast of Mallorca, is the place to find one of the most beautiful cliffs on the island. Close to Santanyi, you will find numerous caves, protrusions, and formations derived from erosions that date back to antiquity. These cliffs go as far as your eye can see. Santanyí is also greatly known for its unspoiled and breathtaking coastline. Besides being a small town, Santanyi is also a municipality that has about 14,500 inhabitants spread over 12 areas. And did you know that Santanyí has a large, German community? That’s why the well-known Santanyí market is also called the ‘’wochenmarkt Santanyí’’.

Even though this authentic village is located slightly inland in a privileged position, it has more than 48km of beautiful spoilt coastline! Santanyí is surrounded by high walls which were built by locals to protect the village against multiple pirate attacks in the past. You can still admire these walls, together with the Porta Murada gate and the remains of a fort that’s built during the 18th century. Along the coast near Santanyi, you will find more defence towers and forts. Originally, Santanyi was called Santi Aginini or the ‘holy lamb’ by Christian conquerors. For a long time, Santanyi has been known for its extensive trade of building stone and agriculture.

Furthermore, there’s a wonderful nature park which is actually the second-largest nature park in the Balearics! This park includes multiple pearly white beaches with many pine trees around it. It is also known for its rich birdlife, dunes, and ravines. This parc is called Parc Natural de Mondragó, with beaches called Cala Mondragó, S’Amarador, and Caló des Burgit.

Why do people love to live in Santanyi?

Besides going on holiday there, Santanyi is also a great place to live. Why? Mainly because of the magnificent bay and coastline, a lively but relaxing town, and the modern and newly built fincas that meet high-end standards. It also has luxurious townhouses with a swimming pool and a lovely garden. If you compare it to the capital Palma, Santanyi offers more peace. When you live in Santanyi, you also have the chance the visit the traditional market that’s held every Saturday that’s full of fresh products! For around 400.000 euros, you could buy an older house or a flat. But most houses here are more exclusive, meaning that you’ll easily pay in between 1.000.000 and 5.000.000.

Compared to Andratx, which is one of the most popular and luxurious areas in Mallorca, Santanyi is a lot more affordable – plus it comes with pure, unspoilt surroundings as well. Within the serene atmosphere of Santanyi, you will find many fine places to eat. But why most people love to live in Santanyi, is because they love the tranquillity, vibes, and light of the town. It has attracted many creative people and international artists. That’s why you will find many workshops and different types of galleries when you walk through the narrow alleys.

We offer beautiful properties and villas there that are surrounded by many local plants, old trees, or paradisical gardens. Also, from this plot you can reach Santanyí, Alqueria Blanca, Porto Petro, Porto Colom and Cas Concos in just 5 minutes. This means that Hamburg Hill is perfectly located in-between great areas, too.

You might wonder: why is it called ‘’Hamburg Hill’’? Well, this is because it was once settled by a German origin, which settled on a range of hills between Santanyi and Cas Concos. Therefore, it’s a geographical area and a rural high society known for Germans living there. You can tell this by the smaller galleries and workshops that are loved by art fans. Make you can buy a special art piece to take home? Located on the main road in a 17th-century townhouse, you will find one of the more well-known galleries called Galería Sailer. Within this townhouse, you can discover glass objects from all around the world, as well as contemporary paintings, antique kilims, pre-Columbian textiles and more.

For fun boutique shopping, Santanyi is also a fantastic place to be. When you head to Plaza Mayor, you will be in the location of an Italian designer fashion store called Es Centre. There’s also a fashion store called Cult, which showcases designer jeans and young fashion.  You can also explore some vibrant works of a successful Dutch-born artist called Gemma Leys. Sometimes, she runs a workshop in her house as well!

Santanyi also had to suffer a lot of pirate attacks. All around Santanyi, you could find marks of this suffering past. Signs of the fear of past generations are the Porta Murada (gate) and the fortified city wall that was built by the locals. Nearby Santanyi, there’s also a place called Cala Llonga (located close to the resort area Cala d’Or) where you could still see remains of an 18th-century fort to repel invasions of pirates. You will spot quite some embrasures used to house cannons. Along the coast, you will find more defence towers like Torre d’en Beu, which is located in Cala Figuera.

Flor de sal d´es trenc

Have you ever heard of Flor de Sal d´Es Trenc? It’s called the white gold of Mallorca, and the best salt of the Balearic islands. Now, what makes this salt special? It’s very high quality, as it’s made on salt flats that offer ideal conditions: a gentle sea breeze, low humidity, plenty of sunshine, and crystal-clear, pure seawater. You will find Flor de Sal products in eye-catching canisters, which are ubiquitous on the island. The official store for Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc is located in the main square of Santanyi. The wonderful ingredient is harvested on the salt flats of Es Trenc. This is a beach that’s about 10km long, located on the southern coast of Mallorca. It’s a part of the natural park of Mallorca, called Es Trenc-Solobrar de Campos.

Cabrera Island

Santanyi is also closely located to Cabrera, which is an unoccupied island and nature park, that’s known for its beautiful seascapes and local wildlife. A great recommendation is to take a boat trip to this island. You could easily book a day tour at the harbour of Colonia Sant Jordi. The boats usually leave at 09:30 am and come back around 05:00 pm. There are rare species and fauna, and with the crystal blue waters, it’s a spectacular place for divers and snorkelling too. Besides, you can do sunbathing here or walk around and explore the pure nature of this hidden gem.

Cala Santanyi

When we talk about Santanyi, we can’t skip Cala Santanyi. This large and sandy beach is located about 6 kilometres away from the town. Once you get there, the relaxing and unwinding can begin. As Santanyi has a large German community, don’t be surprised to be greeted by respectful German inhabitants or people. Cala Santanyi is a beautiful petite beach, that’s very quiet, clean, with crystal clear waters. This beach can also offer you all the facilities you need. It’s no problem to go to the toilet, rent a sunshade, sun loungers or chairs. In the peak season, it can be more crowded here as Cala Santanyi is actually a small cove. What we know for sure, is that all good beaches on Mallorca could be busy during the summer months.

This amazing beach has multiple great restaurants, one of them being Café D’rac. It has great food and great service! The restaurants are mainly run by close and welcomed families. But what’s most important, is the beauty of Cala and the soft, sandy beach. Swimming here is fantastic, and the sea has low little waves which make it very child-friendly too. You could also get your pair of goggles, so you could get to see some fish whilst going underwater. Besides, admire the submerged holes and caves whilst you’re in the water. Santanyi is one of the most favoured beaches of Mallorca, and we highly recommend visiting this peaceful postcard setting.

If you want to, you can go visit the diving centre that’s located in the town of Santanyi. This centre arranges trips to many spots where you will see beautiful rocks and caves in the sea. Cala Santanyi is about 130 meters long and 80 meters wide. And would you like to visit another beach? Then we recommend visiting Cala Llombards, which is a very lovely beach too. If you’d like to visit another beach as well, we recommend visiting Cala Llombards. This lovely beach is also within the Santanyi municipality. The village where it is located is called Es Llombards.

Cap de Ses Salines

What also belongs to the municipality Santanyi, is Cap de Ses Salines. This is the southernmost point of Mallorca. When you’re there in the spring, there’s a chance you spot migratory birds who enjoy a break there on their way back to Europe. At Cap de Ses Salines, you will also find an attractive lighthouse that’s built in 1863. The people who love this part of Mallorca most, are individualists who are fans of nature. There’s not much there, so you won’t find any gastronomic establishments nearby. But in summer, there could be a mobile vendor that sells cold drinks, sandwiches, and ice cream. Usually, the winds here are quite strong. So when you sit on the rocks don’t be surprised when you get slammed by a wave.

The main reason people visit Cap de Ses Salines is because of its magnificent view. The sea shows different grades of blue and green and combined with the nearby rocks you can tell why people like this place. For if you’d like to know how to reach the lighthouse: you can get there either by car or bicycle. To get there, first, take the MA-6110 road from Ses Salines. Once you arrived at the beacon, you can park the car and follow the path along the coast to the northeast. The coastline is rocky and slopes slightly towards the sea. You could find three tiny, sandy beaches that are spread over several hundred metres of coastline. So, if you’re a fan of nature with an unspoilt, arid landscape and magnificent view, Cap de Ses Salines could be a great place to visit. This landscape is well suited for hikers too.

Market Santanyi

This well-known market has something in store for everyone. From fresh fruits and vegetables to clothes, jewellery, leather, pottery, designer bags, and more. it could easily take you to 2 hours to get to see everything in this market. Besides, Santanyi is a very pretty town to walk in. That’s also why people love to visit this market, as it’s held within an authentic setting in this historical town. So, when you want to stock up on fruits, vegetables, and have some fun exploring all the creative jewellery, local art and craft, and clothing stalls: have a visit to Market Santanyi.
